EDUCATION & TECHNOLOGY: BROADENING CULTURAL AND COMMUNITY PERSPECTIVES
You are invited to hear and meet Dr. Jeff Stanzler (School of Education, University of Michigan), who will give a talk at The New School Montessori on Sat, Dec 3rd at 2:00-4:00pm.

This event is free and open to the public. It is part of The New School's commitment to bring the best of progressive education to Cincinnati.

Dr. Stanzler's interactive presentation will draw on the work he and his UMichigan colleagues are doing with children and schools across the country. He will discuss the use of technology in education, including the potential that technology has for opening up and enriching the world of the classroom. Click here to read an article by Dr. Stanzler in which he challenges outworn preconceptions about the nature of play in the lives of children and schools.

The event will also feature catering by TNSM's chef, Audrey Cobb.

Reserve your seat today! Please RSVP to Ann Baumgardner at TNSM at ann.baumgardner@thenewschool.cc. For additional information call 513-281-7999.

We hope you can join us--

With best wishes,

ABOUT DR. JEFF STANZLER

Dr. Jeff Stanzler is a faculty member at the University of Michigan School of Education, working in teacher education and educational technology, and directing the Interactive Communications and Simulations (ICS) group. In his role with ICS, Dr. Stanzler manages four projects, mostly designed for middle school and high school students. These include the trans-historical “Place out of Time” simulation; The “Arab-Israeli Conflict Simulation;” and “Earth Odyssey,” a social/cultural issues forum linked to vicarious travel. The list also includes “ImagineNation Matters,” which uses simulation to create mentored storybooks for elementary students in grades 3-6 that explore significant cultural and historical events and ideas. University student “mentors” are trained within the context of Jeff’s undergraduate and graduate courses, where the focus is on supporting the project participants, and in exploring the nature of teaching and learning in these unusual contexts.

For the last few years, he and his ICS group have been working on a variation of “Place out of Time” for Jewish Day Schools (The Jewish Court of All Time), collaborating with their project partners at the University of Cincinnati’s Center for Studies in Jewish Education and Culture.

Dr. Stanzler is on the faculty of the Master of Arts with Secondary Certification (MAC) Program, where he teaches a course on teaching with technology, and the Michigan Community Scholars Program, which supports university student engagement in community-based work.
